Valentine one install

I'm trying to hard-wire install my valentine on my windshield. I'd like to wire into 12V power either in the dome (above the dome light/sun shade control) or into the plastic rear-view mirror stalk cover. Has anyone successfully removed either that stalk cover or the plastic piece that houses the sun shade button without damage? Thanks.
