OK. How good is the Si4 vs the SD4

Having had quite a few big engines petrol Range Rovers I know all about poor fuel economy and fast 4x4's when driving the RRE i felt the difference between the sensible SD4 and the SI4 wasn't enough to pull me in that direction. Im pretty sure we will get a SD4 remap to take it up to similar performance as that of a std SI4.

Resale was a big factor for me.... the SI4 will almost certainly depreciate quicker than that of the SD4

DPF regeneration is a big concern to me given the short journeys I take in town so I'm going to arrange a test drive in the Si4 and will probably switch to that as I think I jumped into the diesel camp without weighing everything up at the start.

Only doing less than 10,000 miles a year so the extra cost of diesel does not work in my favour plus the insurance on the petrol is cheaper than the diesel which surprised me.

I have driven the Diesel manual & I did think it was fab & so much better than my diesel Freelander but I have had the DPF thing bugging me as I do a lot of short journeys then:-
I watched Watchdog this evening & there was an article about the DPF featuring a Fiat 500 & a Nissan Quashkai & given the issues I think I would be foolish to buy a diesel now they all have a DPF - as always one so called improvement probably being the result of Europe again means another bloody headache!

DPF=Definite Power FAILURE!

But by the time you have your SD4 remapped I'll have my Si4 remapped twice There are always so many more performance options for the petrol engine for those inclined that way - and the exhausts oh la la! Vroom!
Of course I'll just wait for the lads on this forum to their Evoques.
I don't want to void any warranty as this is my first LR and something tells me a warranty for a LR might be more valuable than with some other brands

Does anyone mind explaining why the DPF is particularly bad for short journeys? I have a SD4 on order but my wife will only do around 5000 miles a year, all of which are short stop/start journeys

That's the worst thing she can do!

But why? What am i missing here?

Hi, diesels aren't as efficient on short runs as they are on longer ones, which makes the petrol Evoque a bit more competetive in terms of fuel efficency. Also the DPF needs regenerating (depending on how its driven) between every 190-500 ish miles, which necessitates giving it a high speed run (A road or motorway) for approx 20 mins or so.
