Brake pads replacement
Hi,
Has anyone taken it upon themselves to change the brake pads on their Evoque? If so, did you go with the original pads or after-market? Love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers,
MPK

RE: Brake pads replacement
Hi MPK
I've just bought Brembo OEM discs and pads, although wont be doing them for a few weeks yet, had my current ones out and gave them a service and will wait till the summer to change, before the MOT.
I would stick with decent brands and only use OEM style pads as these have to be closer than 10% of original manufacturer performance.
There was just too much mark up on the price of LR Pads and Discs.

Brake pads replacement
Hi MPK, I had mine replaced last service. To be honest I can't remember. I get a mobile land rover specialist to service mine. I assume they were oem. I have a mate with an Volvo xc60 and he just replaced his pads with dustless pads, which I wished I did each Friday after a solid week of driving. On a side note, they may try to tell you that you need to replace your rotors as well. My guy says you can get one set of replacement pads before replacing the rotors

RE: Brake pads replacement
Whilst that used to be the general case, it's not a great pointer these days, with semi-metallic pads you can get higher disc wear rates, you have to measure the disc to know if it needs changing.
On the rear the disc thickness is 11mm with a 9mm minimum thickness... mine are already close to this limit on a single set of pads, it was the discs that were rightly highlighted at the MOT not the pads.

RE: Brake pads replacement
Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
I was also told by the dealer that i'd need to get my rotors changed but i will be asking for a second opinion. Anyway, I find it surprising given i have only done 50K kms. I am planning on getting the brake pads replaced by a friend who's a mechanic. Roverparts seems to have the originals pads but they are double the price of aftermakets/oem.

RE: Brake pads replacement
Has anyone done the front brake upgrade, similar to what they do on the FL2's?
They fit the larger petrol engine drilled brake discs, petrol engine model caliper carriers and the same pads and calipers. Even though you are using the same caliper and pads, they supposedly give better braking because the pad is set further away from the centre of the hub which increases leverage. Caliper carriers are £25 plus postage off the bay and larger drilled discs are probably £30 ish more so for a little over £60 you get a better brake setup. If my brakes were anywhere near half worn, I'd do it myself but seems a waste at the moment as they are too good to chuck away!
