My Impression of Metal Paddle Shifters

I've replaced my plastic paddle shifters with the red metal factory shifters. Here's my impression: Its an expensive bit of "eye candy" (£220 from Duckworths and one week for shipping to the U.S.) They really contribute to the look of a quality interior. Touching metal paddles rather than plastic is a big tactile improvement. The metal paddle is slightly larger than the plastic one (its a Jaguar part.) One reason for the price is that you're buying more than the aluminum paddle, each shifter is a module containing an electronic sending unit. Simple to replace, each shifter has one T20 torx screw fastening it to the steering wheel, but awkward to unscrew blindly from the rear of the wheel. Once loose unplug the electrical connection. Installation is the reverse. Don't over tighten as the originals were gently snug. The metal paddles don't illuminate like the plastic ones.
