Low battery warning

Collected car on wed. Been driving about (relatively short journeys) and obviously playing with all the gadgets. Was setting up ipod etc and "low battery warning, please switch off or start engine" message came up on main screen.
Surely not a low battery in a brand new car ?
(and no, I hadnt left the lights on)

RE: Low battery warning

It didn't take long to run down a battery on cars these cars.
How long have you been "playing" without the engine running ?
Get yourself a solar or trickle charger so you can still play about with your new toy without draining the battery Very Happy

Low battery warning

Mine was the same after collection a week ago. Also whilst playing with the gadgets! I think it's just a warning message when the screens been on for a while without the engine on.

Still going strong - Big, dirty, fun car mainly for the wife, kids and dog - Disco 4 - Blue (with lots of mud outside, sweets & litter inside)

RE: Low battery warning

If you are sitting in the car with no engine on and using ten stereo you will drain the battery very quickly especially if you have not driven far enough to recharge the battery following start.

RE: Low battery warning

Yep , think this is just a warning to avoid you getting to the point of having a flat battery! Good excuse to go for a drive!

RE: Low battery warning

Same issues in The Range Rover although fixed by a software update. It's either an over active Battery Monitor or an issue with the alternator if you haven't been 'playing'. Basically the smart charge alternator will only charge the battery depending on the conditions to save fuel etc. it doesn't run all the time. T

RE: Low battery warning

This is completely normal. Lead-acid batteries are designed to provide the very high current required to start the engine but their capacity is quite limited. Typically, a battery will be rated at 80 Amp-hours which means it can supply about 1kWh of power which you pay about £0.12 for at home. In practice, the battery voltage falls all the time and the battery will soon be unable to start the car.

When the engine is running, the battery is hardly used because even at the lowest engine speeds, the alternator can provide all the power the car needs. If you run stuff in the car without the engine running, there is significant current drain, hence the warning messages.

RE: Low battery warning

I think I recall someone discussing this a long time ago, saying that the warning message comes up on a timer and that if you ignore it then eventually it will turn everything off anyway. That someone was complaining they could not watch a film uninterrupted. Going for a drive sounds like a good fix.

Ordered black Prestige Sd4 auto 5 door with Lux Pack, AD, and a few extra toys.
