Wheel width

Hi is it possible for someone with 20" alloys to measure the proper tyre width ie a bit of wood accross both faces and measure the width. I know the 235/60/18 ones measure more like 255mm. Just im looking to order storage device for the alloys for next winter when i put winter tyres on, but im still waiting for my evoque to arrive
