RE: Is The Evoque a 'Proper' 4x4?

Looking at the terrain they were going through in the video, what made the RRS win was that it had better tires. That's all.

Having said that, of course the Evoque isn't as good as the FFRR and Disco when going off road. But it's a whole lot better than all the other small SUVs around (Tiguan, Q3, Q5, X3, X1...). It has reasonable ground clearance and good electronics to help it out of difficult situations.

RE: Is The Evoque a 'Proper' 4x4?

During its launch I drove an Evoque around the LRE site at Rockingham. The Evoque went everywhere that its bigger brothers went, just needed to be careful about ground clearance but it has better ground clearance than a Freelander by a few CM. What Evoque lacks in not having a low range box and air suspension it makes up for with a lighter weight. One of the problems with Evoque (and Freelander) off road is trying to keep it slow enough as it's a bit like an eager puppy wanting to run away from you.

Perhaps you should get your facts right before making such abrupt replies?

RRE was never built to travel to the most inhospitable places on earth, it was built to be more Eco friendly and more city focused and still retain the brand values. IMO it does exactly what it says on the tin.
