Heating: a question *solved?!*

AC and Auto both on.

Good idea. I've started making enquiries about their parking heaters... Potential for Timer and/or Remote.

Well after a week of ownership I find the heaters to be good, heats up alot quicker than any of my previous Landrovers.

After a minute, I can smell my own butt cooking and have to dial down to 1-bar of heat. The steering wheel heater is not too hot on cold days, but I don't leave it on as my palms get sweaty. The air conditioning comes on with max heating, to prevent windows fogging up, and it takes a minute to warm up too. Basically, I'm a Brit, so I am used to being cold and wet and miserable, so this dry cold here in Canada is hardly a match for the Evoque's heating capabilities.

When on Auto, the AC will not cool the air unless the desired temp in the cabin is higher than the temp outside. But with the AC on, it will always dehumidify the air drawn in the cabin. This is desirable on colder days, as it helps to reduce the moisture in the air and also helps to keep window interiors demisted, or speed up demisting first thing.

Most cars these days with full auto AC systems will turn on the Air Con, wind up the fans to full, as well selecting the windscreen vents, when you hit the front demist button. this is to get a quicker screen-clear than just using fans alone. Turning off demist normally puts the system back the way it was before selection (Does on Audi's anyway.)

One way of heating up a cold interior quicker, would be to turn on the RECIRC mode to prevent cold air from being drawn in until the interior is warm. Again, some manufacturers recommend this in their user manuals. Once again, some (most?) cars with full auto air con systems also have an Auto Recirc system, which normally detects certain airbourne pollutants and switches to recirc until clear, but can also go into recirc on start up if it is cold outside.

(Once again, that seems to be way of things in Audi's. but not having got hold of my RRE yet, have no idea if this is implemented in this way by LR.)

I think 20mins to get to a comfortable temperature is not acceptable - anyone fancy trying the same test?!

Today I repeated this but left the aircon on - it seems the aircon doesn't only cool and condition the air:

0min - 0 deg
5min - 4 deg
10min - 11 deg
15min - 22 deg (then I arrived at my destination).

Either way, it's clear having the aircon on (and putting up with the noise of the fans) get the cabin hottest the quickest.

When on 'HI' the fans are on full and they make quite a loud noise which I found difficult to put up with for the 15mins.

Dan, Be good to repeat with recirc turned on aswell, both with and without AC on, if you have the patience while we have some cold days!

Not sure what you mean - both my tests had recirc on.
