Fence stain....

Yup... you read that right.
Been away for work for a couple of weeks and the Evoque has sat there accumulating dust, so I decided to wash it today... anyway, I was pretty damned horrified to see red 'spots' all over the car... literally all over the car. (and my other 2 cars, and the neighbours cars).

It seems after a bit of wild accusations that another neighbour used a fence 'sprayer' to paint his fence, and of course the mist has just carried and settled all over the cars.

Now I was pissed off at it landing on our smart and shogun, but on the Evoque I was absolutely fuming.

I guess it's had over a week to settle into the paint, and it hasn't polished out, even using 'autoglym' super resin polish on it - it hasn't even touched it.

So, any clues? shall I just send it to a detailer? or invest in a machine polisher?

RE: Fence stain....

Iron x might remove that? Or you could try using a good quality fine clay like sonus. Worth a punt but still frustrating all the same, I would have been round to their door already!!

RE: Fence stain....

I agree with cjfp and Chunk - I would approach your neighbour, explain the issue and ask for him/her to pay for the damage to be rectified. I was subject to this a few years ago, but luckily the only damage was to garden furniture which had passed its sell by date.

This in my mind is not minor damage as it could prove costly to put right. I appreciate that you may not wish to fall out with him/her, but the liklihood is that had you been the sprayer, your neighbour would have kicked off in a big way.

Good luck.

RE: Fence stain....

Get together with you neighbours (assuming their cars are affected) and go and see you offending neighbour. Firstlyh he must have some third party liability insurance on his household policy. He has clearly not been using the sprayer correctly if it has drifted so far.

My tac would be reasonably but firm. Get him to pay for the cleaning product (after all one bottle will probably solve a number of cars) and as a good will gesture on all sides get him to put a tenner in the charity box in the local boozer. That way he realises he has been an idiot, you get your car clean, £10 to charity and you can carry on living in domestic harmony.....

5 Dr SD4 Dynamic Plus (220PS!)

- Plus Pack (Agility Pimento/Ebony Oxford Leather)
- 20" Style 7 Alloy Wheels, Adaptive Bi-Xenon's with high beam assist, Aero Flip Spolier
- Keyless Entry, Privacy Glass, Auto dipping Interior Mirror, 825W stereo

RE: Fence stain....

I'd try to claim to have a detailer rectify as even if you are experienced with using a machine polisher its going to take a lot of time to get all that off. If you're not experienced with a machine polisher then you could end up doing more damage than is there now so best not to risk it. If you need to find a local detailer then head over to detailingworld.co.uk.

RE: Fence stain....

Like this response from BGFEM. If you have washed and dried the car, try TARDIS tar and glue remover, then Iron X decontaminant remover. These will take the paint back to an unprotected state. If some of the spray is left then by using a clay bar and lube spray you will get rid of this. I wouldn't go straight for a clay bar as there will be other stuff on the paint surface which you could run the risk of damaging the paint surface further.

Then you need to polish and protect the paint with a good polish/ wax. As you don't have any experience of machine polishing, I wouldn't use your Evoque to experiment Sad

This happened to me last year and neighbour did offer to wash the car - not the grass/ slabs/ driveway/ side of house but I cursed inwardly and got on with it to keep the peace Smile

Good luck

RE: Fence stain....

I'm with lesdon, tardis might work, also if you have any white spirits that could be worth a try.

Good luck.

RE: Fence stain....

Got a detailer coming round tomorrow to get me an estimate.

In fairness to the neighbour, he has aknowledged the issue and been very apologetic.... Whether he'll feel the same way with a £200 bill remains to be seen! Lol
