Cost to replace brake pads & discs

I've just completed 2 years of owing my Evoque.

My car went in today for its 52 000km/2 year service to Austral Landrover Brisbane (the only Landrover dealership in Brisbane). I was quoted around $800 for the service which I thought was fair enough considering it only goes in every 12 months. I wish that was where my story ended but wait there is more.

At 15h05 I received a call from the service department saying that both front and rear brakes and discs needed replacing. The cost:
Front brake pads & discs $500
Labour to replace parts $400

Rear brake pads $ discs $500
Labour to replace parts $400

I collected the vehicle at 1730. Therefore in 2 hours 25 minutes the labour charge to complete the replacement of the pads and discs was $800 - coincidently the car also visited the wash bay during this time.

Total bill $2500 - almost 5% of the selling price of the vehicle.

FOOTNOTE: On my way to collect the car, I phoned the Landrover dealership on the Gold Coast (80km away) and the cost to replace the front and rear brake pads & discs - $1200 - 50% cheaper. I know where I'm taking my car next year for its service.

Ouch! Really? At least I have a few dealers to choose from in Sydney! Think I'll ring round beforehand to check prices. Sounds like they know they have the monopoly and charge accordingly, tisk tisk LR!

Just for a bit of info, I got my 40,000 km service done yesterday. I did not go through the dealer, but I found a mobile Landrover/Range rover specialist that carried out the service. All I can say if you are in Sydney it is worthwhile giving him a call. The price I paid was less than half of what Purnell's at Blakehusrt were going to charge. Obviously the price depends on his travel as well. He was very honest, quick and professional. It was so easy, he came to my home and did the service in just over an hour. He can do my brakes, which he said need to be done within 5,000km. Purnell's tried to tell me they needed doing 20,000 km ago ! He quoted a price and again nothing like the Spif888 costs. He did say that he feels the disc do not need replacing and usually you can get 2 sets of pads from the disc's, past experiences with Disco's and RR sports.

Wow, that's like deja vue! I too put mine in for its 52k, $800, got the phone call later on that I needed new rear brake pads $300, new front pads & rotors $800, and a new rear tyre that apparently had a puncture close to the sidewall - $800 for a total of $2700 plus change. They couldn't fix my key that is losing its rubber cover, none in stock so gotta go back for that but they did manage to scratch up my rim when they fitted the new tyre....I found that after when I washed it...I'm waiting on their response to that now....

Ouch you do realise its like a 10 minute job to change the pads. I've just had mine done I wont say how much it cost me to do that as it wouldn't be fair.

Just got my 2nd service at 30,000 km - told brake pads n discs need replacing - front n rear = total $1,550.

Anyone know of a better option rather than dealership in Melbourne?

30,000 km seems early for break replacement?????????

They are probably Ford items you should be able to source from independent much cheaper.

I've had my Mazda 3 since 2007 and my wife now drives it, and it has never had to have the brake pads replaced, yet my 2 year old Evoque needed new rear pads at a cost of about $650 installed...

What gives...

It's a larger much heavier car...
