20” vs. 19” decision…

Struggling to find any pics of a Fuji white with the 19” diamond turned (style 5) wheels. I know most people have gone for 20” but my wife doesn’t like the style plus I thought that 19s should give a better ride given there should be more tyre wall so we went for style 5. More of an anthracite too which we thought would contrast well with the white.

I’m now in a dilemma as dare I say it I think the 19s potentially look too small. The Evoque is a small car yet the arches have been designed so big that only 20s fill them!

Anybody care to share any pics of their white Evoques with style 5 wheels? Is the ride not too crashy on 20s!?

The 19s look very diffferent in the metal - don't make a decision based on photos alone.

I personally found the ride uncomfortable on the 20s although of course a matter of personal preference.

The 19" and 20" have the same overall size...just the tyre sidewalls are deeper on the 19". The 19" alloys are a bit further from the curb stones - and 20" wheels only look good up until the point that you scrape a curb.

If you are funding the car with your own money and running costs are a consideration then take a look at the cost of the 20" tyres (eye watering)......

I have seen the style 5 in the flesh and they look plenty big enough, I wouldn't get them if I though they looked small! Its what we have specd and they really look Fab on the car

I was thinking of changing the order on my Dynamic from the standard 20" to 19". Is there any benefit in doing this (more so with replacement costs)? Or am I being daft as you are paying for 20" wheels & by downgrading not getting any money back from LR & will it affect the resale price?

That said, I have a customer who owns a wheel and tyre centre (or 3) in Kent & I have just asked him about replacement tyre costs & he said there is (in his oppinion) very little difference in costs between 19 & 20 inch tyres. He said there used to be but not now though I guess it depends on where you buy them from!

The 20's will be harsher than 19's albeit alleviated to some extent if you have Adaptive Dynamics.

My D4 had 19's but large tyres too and was very comfortable crashing through potholes and the like. My Evoque with 20's is harsher and I now avoid potholes but to put it in perspective, my wife's Mini Cooper S on 17's (low profile) is far harsher - the 20's don't give me an uncomfortable jolt, just a sense that the bump doesn't feel good for the wheel!

I have the style 5 on mine but I really love the look of the 9 spoke sparkle.

Honestly the real difference lies in the tire manufactures stiffness in the sidewalls. I had 40 series profile with 3 different manufacture and they all felt differently.

   

Here is a pic of 19" style 5 on my Evoque.

I climb kerbs with them to get past cars on the lanes around home and have no issue scraping the alloys.

Ride is not as firm as on 20", but still firm to me coming from a Vogue on 20". Note I have got Adaptive suspension, I don't think that is any firmer than standard suspension.

I must say your car looks lovely. We were torn between Orkney and Fuji and in the end went with Fuji as it's a free colour! Really suits those wheels, very subtle. Amazing how boxey it makes the Freelander look too!

Fortunately ours is a fully maintained leased car hence only need to factor in the upgrade cost. I think the 19s equated to about £6pcm so negligible really.

I saw an invoice for 2 19" pzeros on our current leased A5. £270 per corner. Yikes - twice the price of the same 18" tyre I have on a TT!

After a slight wobble think i'm going to stick with the 19s after all!
