Do you have a Witter tow bar?
It sticks out a mile and looks awful - you can swap it to a detachable one - easy, just undo two bolts and the tow ball complete with bar detaches from the tow bracket.

I haven't much experience of Evoque ownership - only had mine since March.
But Freelander 2s have a similar (possibly the same) transmission to the early Evoques.

Also check the capacity of the towbar being fitted.
I recently fitted a Witter towbar, max limit 1800kg - which matches my capacity, but I am sure one of the towbars we were looking at had a capacity ... |
