Vented bonnet swop - Nickj - 23-05-2016 08:01pm

So, bonnet vent envy got then better of me and as my car is a five door it wasn't blessed with bonnet vents. Thankfully LR have rectified this now but no good for us 2014 5 door owners!

So managed to pick up a vented bonnet with black vents. The black vents alone are nearly £100 each if you are to buy them separately!

I did try the stick on vents but just weren't feeling them.

Before,

Bonnet was fairly easy to swop. Remove sound proofing, unplug washers and washer jet hose. Remove the front latch and then un do 2 bolts either side.

About 20 minutes and bonnet was off.

Then in a another 10 back on,

Took me half hour to line up gaps, but worse bit was removing the vents! Each vent has 3 un accessible clips that are a bugger to get out and even when out difficult to remove. Bought 6 new clips for £6 from LR.

Vents just resting on,

Being wrapped tomorrow. will post some finished pics then.

Much nicer with the real vents just can't beat authentic over "style" rep.

One thing I don't like with repainted or wrapped cars is, that as soon as you open the bonnet or doors one can se the original paint

I do agree. I have a plan when I get round to it, of plasti dipping the underside of the bonnet and the wing edges you don't see in Matt black. Plasti dip is supposed to be hard wearing and if needs removing easy to remove. Should tie it all in.

Don't personally think there's anything wrong with the stick on vents, the good thing about yours Nickj is yours is wrapped so you can keep the costs down by picking a bonnet of any colour and not needing to get it re-sprayed
If I was in that situation I would of bought a new vented bonnet seeing as there so cheap to pick up,,,,,
I think it all depends on what stick on vents you buy, has we all know there's loads to choose from.... Some good Very Happy some not so goodSad think I was lucky and got a good set that sit nice a tight to the bonnet

Motors looking nice Nick Wink

Bonnet wrapped so normal play resumed. Had a mild panic when they rang me to say the wrap was damaged and couldn't do it today. Politely said they needed to get it from somewhere as there was no way my wife was driving around with a grey bonnet! Anyway they sorted it.

Do love the sparkly black they use for the vents!

£10 lettering off eBay looks good.

Hi Nick,
Looking good. Have you thought about wrapping the glossy grey bit on the updated front grill with the matt black you've used on the rest of the car? Think it might link the grill more to the car. Thoughts?
