Do you think this will be free if under warranty?

RE: 6-spd lag - bee - 21-05-2016 05:30pm

my evo just had a software update while in for warranty work. seems to have sorted the lag.

RE: 6-spd lag - Nickj - 21-05-2016 08:19pm

Was the difference a lot? I've always thought the box is a bit sluggish but never noticed anything drastic. Next time I go out will be looking for lag!

Exuse my ignorance, but are these upgrades free of charge and if so, are the dealers obliged to carry them out?

RE: 6-spd lag - PhilSkill - 21-05-2016 08:55pm

They will get applied when it's hooked up to a dealers computer, normally during servicing or when doing some forms of warranty work.

Do they all get automatically updated? With my previous bmw youd only get the updates if an issue and you asked for it unless a serious issue that they had to update.

I'm popping in to my local LR on Tuesday to pick up some clips so I'm thinking I will mention the lag and see if they offer the update.

RE: 6-spd lag - benzina - 21-06-2016 07:35am

Is this update on Topix? If yes, any more info on this software update would be much appreciated, as it sounds very interesting regarding the lag issue.
I'm away at the moment, but would be interested in getting my dealer to do this when i get back, but would be good to go in with as much specific info as possible, cause other times, they just seem to be ignorant regarding updates i've mentioned in the past.

Update - still the same, no lag - and if anything economy seems ever so slightly improved (was averaging 34-35 over the 4 years, now seems to be heading for 35-36)

RE: 6-spd lag - benzina - 21-06-2016 02:34pm

So even acceleration to say 100kph would have to be faster too.

KaDargo, are you saying that their is absolutely no lag when you floor it from standstill, and also slowing at junctions then flooring it too? So it just immediately responds? If you can describe these two scenarios as best you can, in comparison with how it used to be, that would be great.

P.S. Do i ask for this...s/w update Q585 (engine management system upgrade) when i go in to the dealer then? Whats s/w stand for?

I just remembered my password for topix and had a look. Firstly, for my car it says ''their a no outstanding Field Service'' for this vehicle.
Also had a look at the list of bulletins for the evoque, but could not find this update listed.
I then put Q585 in the search and it indeed came up "Q585 (engine management system upgrade)'', but without subscription i was not able to view more info. It was only just added on the 7th April.

s/w stands for "software".

It would be interesting to know what vehicles this upgrade applies to.
