Audio advice please - AndyFrance - 19-05-2015 03:38pm

My order when built will include (which is hard to believe considering the price) an 80 watt 8 speaker (no sub) audio system.

I have been thinking of upgrading to the 380 watt 11 speaker/sub audio, but is it worth the extra €1010 cost?
Usually in this type of situation I'd just upgrade, but (don't laugh), would LR have the cheek to install a standard audio system in a luxury car costing almost 45k that sounds bad?

Thought's/Advice greatly appreciated!

How important is music for you? As for me, in the car, music is just travelling along, so for me it isn't worth the extra money...

Koidream, thanks for your reply. You have the 80 watt system then? Can you give me your opinion on it's sound quality?

Ok.......Anyone willing tell me how good or bad either the 80w or the 380w system is please?

Andy,
I think `i'm not the best person to help but bearing in mind my left ear is a little down in mid range frequency....
But,
Great reviews of the Meridian 380watt system left me underwhelmed when I initially got my hands on the car.
Since then, living with it has meant I have had a chance to compare it to a few other standard systems in our (nothing exciting) company cars and that belonging to her indoors.

My appraisal now is that it is classier with its trump card being a far more natural ambience about the tone.
It's not a kicking, powerful, thumping, blasting sound. It's just very nice.
For example, my other half's 2011 Golf GTDI isn't bad but in comparison it is so artificially coloured, something i can only describe in hindsight so you don't know until you've lived with both.
Would I have paid extra for it? not that much.
I'm pretty glad I have it though as despite my substandard hearing, I do like musical expression to be delivered accurately.
Thinking about it that way though..how good are your MP3's etc??? because you can't get out the system something thats not there at source.

Cheers Kojak. From what you've said, the 380w may not be worth the upgrade. I'll stick with the 80w for now, then decide after delivery if I want to change it. I'm sure there are plenty of companies out there that can supply and fit a good system for a grand.

Best regards

80w system?????? I might be missing something here but I am sure there is no 80w system and that the 380w is in fact the basic one with the 800w the top one. There is a difference between the two and I would always recommend the 800 w system.

Hi SP. I think you will find the 'standard' system for 'cheap' MY16 models is now the 80W system.

I wish you were correct Stadt Panzer. The MY16 SE that I've ordered comes with an 80w system as standard.

I wouldn't describe ANY model as 'cheap' Walt, but you did make me laugh mate!

80 W? That's why I was doubting with my answer. My dynamic MY15 came with the standard 38OWatt...
