Can You Get The SatNav to Shut Up? - NightFox - 18-12-2012 10:07pm

Does anyone know if it's possible to mute the SatNav? I don't mean permanently, but when it's half way through giving you an instruction. It always seems that just as I'm listening to something really interesting on the radio, she always buts in and I miss what I want to hear. On cars I've had previously, there's often been something to press which would interupt and stop the SatNav talking for just that instruction, but I've not yet found anything to do this in my Evoque.

There is a button, found it by trail and error, although for the life of me can't remember which one it was!!!

My wife always accuses the satnav of interupting her ! ... maybe if she didn't talk so bloody much !

Well it's good to know that there is a way... Now I've just got to work out what it is! If anyone sees a blue Evoque heading up the M40 tomorrow with its hazards flashing, windows going up and down and boot opening up then you can assume I've not worked it out just yet.

I might just stalk the M40 as still I have not seen a Mauritius!!! I turned off the Sat nav voice on day 1, theres the speaker symbol on top line of display which you can press to disable sound, maybe its that... when a command plays it will just cancel the command!? worth a try.

At the Nav Menu, touch the "Route Voice Guidance" icon to toggle Navigation voice On/Off. To access this Menu from the map screen, touch the lower left on-screen button - "Nav menu".

Refer to the Owner's Handbook, pages 147-148.

Thanks, that's not what I'm asking though. I want the voice guidance on, I just want to be able to immediately stop it talking if it starts giving me a direction in the middle of a 30 second news story I'm listening to on the radio, but to continue giving me all the following verbal instructions as normal.

Any more than a single touch button to do that is pointless.

Think I remember now; left hand side of the steering wheel, the multi button up, down, left, right. Up/down for volume etc. When she starts talking (no not the wife, doesn't work, tried it!) but the navi push the right hand arrow, as if you we're changing station, it should cut her short.

Cool, I'm just on the motorway now (stopped in the services right now!) so I'll give that a try in a few minutes...

Yep - use the arrow buttons.
