USB suddenly disconnecting while Playing - PhilSkill - 20-02-2012 03:17pm

Anyone been listening to music over the USB and then suddenly had "Please Connect Device..." come up? sometimes that's it you have to pull the USB out, other times it changes to "Connecting Device..." and reconnects after a minute and starts playing where it left off.

Did u try another USB? It could be a failing drive or a bad contact.

I've convinced myself the Connections are good (unless it's internal to the Chassis loom) And it happens when stationery, so don't think it's my tough drive vibrating, Will go back to a Solid State device and see if it does it again to rule that out.

You haven't managed to infect the USB socket with a virus from another USB device have you?

I get it all the time...was waiting till I was near a dealer.
Am using a brand new USB and it is virus checked....quite irritating....

Or, a naughty drive. I have one that would never behave on the head unit of my Lotus. It works perfectly fine on my other cars and PCs.

Hmmm, in some ways I was hoping I was alone, then it's something that could be fixed, but experience tells me that this is a file reading/access software type problem, I only noticed it when I started filling the Hard drive (500Gb Freecom Toughdrive) with all my CD's.

What I might do is clean it down completely and reformat it, then Re-Rip my CD's fresh into 320kbps WMA, and just put a few on at a time see if/when it re-occurs as well as try a Solid State drive.

Tedious though...

Useful Note: to save my USB Socket from wearing out/breaking I've put a short USB Extension cable in so I'm not dicsonnecting the Car socket continually. (and the problem occured before I added this, USB will support 5M)

Good tip! I do that too on USB ports that I plug/unplug frequently. I have had a few worn out USB sockets. They can be very expensive to replace, i.e. replacing the whole thing!
