Over to England or the Republic? Take a look at the email header and get the IP addresses. If you don't know how to do it, see here: http://whatismyipaddress.com/find-headers

Then PM me the headers, if you like.

Daglass,

All Sounds a bit suspicious to me.

If it were me, I would just tell him that you have others who want to see the car who are a lot closer to you and are willing to look at the car at your convenience, so unfortunately you will have to pass on their offer etc...

If is still interested, he will come to you.

I sold a BMW convertible last year to a guy from Scotland and he came down on the train to Newcastle and I picked him up from the station. I took no documents with me at all (in case he just grabbed the keys and drove off) and he volunteered to bring his passport, driving licence and 2 proofs of his home address. The deal was done and he even offered to go to the bank with me to deposit the cash to make sure I was happy with everything prior to me releasing the car.

So, in a nutshell, if the guy is serious about your car then he should be willing to travel and bring whatever documents you request. I know that I wouldnt be offended if someone asked me if I was buying a car?

Waiting for: - 2015 SD4 Dynamic, LUX pack, Auto, 5 door. Mauritius Blue. Santorini Roof........spare wheel.

Have you asked for advice from your local trading standards office. If it is a scam then you might also like to advise the police and ask if there have been any other people ripped off in your area by a similar/the same scam.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

Put a tracker on the car and see how far we get with this... then again, tell them exactly how YOU want to do the deal. After all, they are buying, you are selling. You are at a greater loss...

Got mine : Dynamic Fuji White with Lux Pack and black contrast roof.
Optional extras : Privacy glass, Heated steering wheel and TPMS.
Me: Very HappyVery Happy

If someone really likes the sound of your car or any other for that matter, they will come to you!!

I was valeting a Freelander 2HSE in Epsom, Surrey yesterday & their daughter was selling her Pug 107. While I was there someone from Nottingham rang up & said they wanted to view it, I said if they are coming that far then you'll have a sale.
I was still there (lol) at 8pm working under lights when the couple turned up & yes they bought it & drove all the way back!

When I was looking for an MG Montego I drove to Bristol & back just to view one (didn't buy it) & the one I have now I had to go not far from Swindon to view it then bought it....

Came Home On 02/03/13 Pure Tech In Barolo Black/Cirrus Trim with Bespoke Firenze Ascents + Numerous Factory Options!!
Also :-

Rover 25GSi - 2005 Everyday Car.
MG ZR-Express Van - 2005 Special Factory Order (Literally a one off).
MG Montego 2.0i - 1990 Shows/Sunny Days.
MG Metro 1300 - 1983 Being Restored!

RE: potential scam?? thoughts welcome

I sold my 335i M Sport Tourer just before Xmas from a guy from Norwich.

He saw the advert on Pistonheads and phoned me on the Friday afternoon asking the the right questions about the car, when he was happy with my answers he wanted to view the car.

He said he would be leaving Norwich by train at 5.15 am and arriving at my local station in Oxfordshire at 9.15 am, so i said to him when you get in call me, and i will collect you from the local station.

He did arrive!! phoned me, and i picked him up from the station and took him for a coffee before his test drive.

Anyway cut a long story short, it ticked all the boxes for him and he made me a very near offer, to which i accepted, and so we went to my local Barclays to complete the transaction as he was a Barclays customer.

Barclays made the transaction for him that day and said it would show in my account on the Monday during the day, they also supplied me with a confirmation letter showing his bank account and sort code etc, and his home address, and of course the transaction payment.. they also said that once the payment had left his account it could not be retracted by him.

I then set the sat/nav up for him with his post code, we shook hands and of he went..

If your car is advertised and priced right, then decent people will travel to you, but i would never of driven it to Norwich hoping for a sale. By car probably a 6 hour round trip..?

If dealerships were to offer more realistic trade in values then we wouldn't have to go through the stress of private selling, and the crime that goes with it. My LR dealer offered slightly under 5k less, than what i received for the car..
