Wiper gone crazy

Have you guys experienced any issue with the rain sensing wiper? I drove my Evoque in the rain the first time today. The rain sensing wiper went crazy a few times - wiping like crazy even the rain was light. If I turned it off and turned it on again immediately, it kept going crazy. The only way to get back to a normal operation was to wait half a min, or so, and turn it on again. Then, after a while, it would go crazy again.

Anyone has experienced similar problem?

RE: Wiper gone crazy

I find the wiper rain detector to be quite sensitive but found that it sorted itself out. It does go to fast mode more often than I would but at least it is better than my old BMW which let the rain cover the screen before turning on!

Arrived: SD4 Prestige Auto Coupe with Lux pack. Ipanema Sand with Black Panoramic Roof
Ambience Interior with Macassa wood.

Now a Jag XFR Kyanite Blue - wow what power.
At home and superb.

Auto wipers can be bit frustrating from time to time as I have experienced on my Clio. It's a function of the random nature of h2o falling from the sky!

On the whole they're useful to have as an option.

Mine didn't sort itself out. There was a moment the rain almost stopped after leaving the highway. I left the wiper in auto and hope it would stop itself. It kept in fast mode for a couple traffic lights. I just stopped it myself.

Oh you mean it went crazy fast as opposed crazy unpredictable! Nope, even the one on my Clio does't do that.

The auto wiper on my good old 206 doesn't do that neither.

RE: Wiper gone crazy

Try cleaning the glass on the outside round the sensor, I found that road traffic dirt on a wet day could send them a bit do-lally. It used to happen with my FFRR quite frequently but not on my TDv8RRS that I had before it. One thing I find frustrating with the auto-on is that it detects a squashed fly on the screen and it turns on the wipers, sometimes when it is raining hard it won't come on at all, it can be quite inconsistent

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

I have also found on Vogue and Freelander a light misty rain sends it fast wipe when manually you would wish for an intermittent wipe. The sensor works well in most conditions but is not perfect.

By the way you can increase or decrease the rate of wipe in auto by rotatating the wiper setting at the end of the stalk if you have not found that feature yet.

RE: Wiper gone crazy

@Claud You are right. It's the light rain that the sensor has difficulty with. In medium rain, it seems to behave much better.

RE: Wiper gone crazy

Thumbs Up my Merc CLK used to flip the wipers in dappled light under trees, very annoying.....
