Why should I buy another?

Looking to change my car at some point this year as I never keep a car out of warranty.
Had a road trip yesterday to size up the competition,I quite fancied a drive in the Audi sq5 and also the BMW x3 35d which I see as being in the same price/size/quality range as the evoque.
If I was going for another evoque it would be a dynamic coupe,9 speed, black pack, tailgate, pano, key less etc around the £46k mark.
So yesterday managed to get drives in all 3 of my choices at various dealerships and came away thinking why should I buy another evoque?
The evoque was noisier, gearbox was more hesitant, suspension crashier, recorded worse MPG,smaller, shorter service intervals, got blown about more on the road and not to mention the massive gulf in performance and I mean massive,it was like driving with the hand brake on.
The land rover dealer would give no discount and also offered the worst trade in value meaning the price to change was within £1000 of each other.....now why should I?
I understand the land rover is far better off road/snow/mud but living in a town or city rather than in the country makes that less of a bonus, land rover have caused this issue for me by not offering a more powerful engine for the evoque and also deciding to drop the entry level range rover sport se which at £52k was in my range.
What do you all think?could well be adios from me!
Won't even mention the difference in sat nav/entertainment system, reminds me of going from a black and white TV to a colour TV for the first time!

My order- fuji white sd4 manual coupe,tech pack,xenons,style 6 20's,pano roof,privacy,front fogs,rear camera,folding mirrors,ebony int/ivory headliner,dec delivery.(still waiting!) Collected 14/01/2012
NOW SOLD as of 26/07/14 Very Happy
Now driving Audi SQ5, everything the Evoque should of been.

RE: Why should I buy another?

We have just done the same, we were waiting for the BMW X4 but no date yet, probably a year at least. As it happened the day before our dealer visits the post brought the latest X4 flyer and it looks a bit dumbed down from the concept vehicle images.

So X3, very nice engine (3.0), better sat nav but the rest - seemed about the same as when we last looked at an X3 circa 2004. Engine aside I would take a Freelander to an X3 any day.

Q5 again 3lt, no demonstrator, dealer desparate to sell us a Sept 2013 SQ5 with 9k miles on it. Nice engine, very nice engine, good sat nav but the controls were an ergonomic disaster but all in a very quick and competant blob. This SQ5 had been worked hard and the inside was like the local tip - don't like used cars! In black it looked like Darth Vaders helmet, whilst it would have done the job we would have been bored with it very quick, the other consideration was the amount it had devalued.

Whilst we were in the Audi dealership we spied a TT coupe, never looked at one before, very impressed. If the dealer could have bothered to find us a diesel quatro auto s-line plus extras we would have signed on the dotted line but he wanted to palm us off with the junker SQ5.
Quick look at the VW Toerag then off for a coffee and make up our minds time.

Good px offer on our old Evoque, deal done and its in the signature. Only thing to add is gloss black coated wheels which the dealer will get done for us at wheel specialist a few 100 metres down the road, £70 + Vat per wheel is a lot cheaper than the black pack at £1900!.

PS: as we live in a very remote area the ability to get you to the shop, doctor etc. is more important than outright performance and our nearest motorway is a 5 1/2 hour drive away!. Also pi55ed-off that LR ditched the RRS SE.

Evoque Dynamic SD4 Lux Auto Total Rubbish, worst car I have owned - GONE AT LAST!

No allocations left until Jan/Feb 2015 plus quite expensive to achieve a decent spec.

Nearest dealer is 250 miles away and it is not comparable on price.

RE: Why should I buy another?

Oh, for the US market Macan S is $49K and that is more than enough standard features. Dynamic here costs way more than the Macan S (I think the Dynamic is $58K to start) while the Macan S is by far a better car. I like my Evoque, and if the Macan S wasn't so ugly (I think the Panamera is their best looking 4 door), I'd seriously regret getting one.

I think I'll be moving onto a Panamera in 3 years anyway.

RE: Why should I buy another?

I can't say that I would blame you mate! My 2012 Evoque is at the dealer, for the fourth visit regarding the low battery/charging issue, that hopefully they will sort it this time, as I have LRCS involved! So I have a 2014 9speed Evoque as a loaner, as we speak. The acceleration is balky, trans is constantly shifting, after you come to a stop(like at a traffic light), there is this disconcerting, clunk and a half sound, under your bottom, as the trans decides what gear you want next! Also, there is no paddle shifting in the "D" position! You have to be in "S" mode, to use paddle shifters. and when you do downshift, instead of getting engine breaking, the car accelerates, as it would if you were downshifting, with the accelerator pedal. Not cool! I'll keep the 2012 set-up any day. Just my .02, sorry

You have a 2021 evoque??! Must be a time machine.Laughing
I was quite disappointed with it after all the hype felt the Audi and BMW boxes were somehow smoother,LR have said the gear change was beyond perception, don't get me wrong it wasn't bad but driven back to back with the others it wasn't any better.
MPG was indicated at 32 MPG which is way short of what I expected to see considering the sq5 Audi is twin Turbo 3 ltr with 300 bhp+ and showed 34 MPG on the computer.
Not made my mind up yet but food for thought.

I would say wait and figure out if you should just keep the evoque for another year, save the cash, and then see in a year about whether macans are available or whether you want an RRS.
I do agree our sat nav system is dated compared to some others, but I also love the sound quality that we get from even the standard setup.
I have to say that for all the evoque's foibles it's still visually the best looking of the cars you've mentioned, but the macan does sound like it'll be a good drive and porsches do seem to be built rock solid (but expensive to service).

Tony
Having bought the wife a TT 2.0T s-tronic I think the DSG is streets ahead of the 6-speeder in my evoque but otherwise the handling is quite similar, but her audi has managed very well and is at almost 50k miles and 7 years with very few troubles so far (touch wood)! Also by then you might just be able to get hold of one of the newly released TTs which have an interior that is amazing.

5 door MY12 Fuji Dynamic Plus with shadow chromes, santorini contrast roof, power tailgate and a couple of added rattles!
Mods - Black RR bonnet vents, Side steps, Silicone rear wiper, rear sill protector, rear sill plates, LED interior lighting conversion, 2014 Sat Nav update.

Yes, saw the new TT on the Geneva show report, more angular and in our mind much better looking than the current TT. Also they appear to have got rid of that enormous hand brake and got into the 21st century with an Evoque style item - if I am reading the photos correctly. It said the TT will not be available in the UK until end of year so add a year for launch faults to be fixed it could be on the cards for our next change if LR don't come up with anything better. Our last 'sports car' was a Cobra replica complete with USA V8, sold it to buy a building plot for our retirement home - hell do I regret doing that!.
