UK forum?

I'm getting a little annoyed by everyone spreading prices (often without currency) and information about option packs, not considering that 90% (?) of this world has other prices and even the names and contents of the packs are different. Across the pond we don't have a Lux pack for instance, the Tech packs contain other things, etc.

The UK prices have been made available and suddenly this forum became a lot less interesting for non-UK residents. For the rest of us most of the recent threads are simply incorrect.

Prestige TD4 5d / Fuji White / Tech pack / Parallel park / Pano / Order 26/01/2011 / Build 13/12/11 / Arrival 04/01/2012

Vision - on the home page , if you scroll down there are sections for North America, Australia/New Zealand, Italy, Europe (don't now why Italy is not in Europe!) and Africa.................. it seems to me that only China/ Japan are not catered for.

If you remember 7 days ago all us Brits were whinging like mad because all of Europe had had their prices and specs for a month - hang on in there, it's all the pent-up excitement being let out. Things will be calmed down in a week or so until the May Events

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: UK forum?

Yes, 1 European topic to choose from!
I'm not blaiming the forum you know, I don't get why LR wants to have different option policies for such small countries. A UK Prestige comes with a Tech Pack while in Europe we have to pay for it and don't even get the possibility to select a Lux pack...? I can understand different prices, but why different choices?

RE: UK forum?

Could it be something to do with the tax systems in the various countries of Europe. You and the Dutch have some very high taxes on certain bits of kit when they are specced on a car IIRC

As different markets release information that part of the world will have a short term focus from the media and on forums. The information isn't incorrect for other markets, it's just not as relevant. The only thing I can do with the UK prices is apply currency conversion to get a rough idea of what I'm in for Down Under.

My local dealer told me this afternoon that Australian specifications and prices won't be finalised until next month.

In small volume markets the factory can dictate what the distributor gets. The distributor does its best to get what it thinks will sell in its local market.

Also some countries have their own legal requirements. Take Australia where we have Australian Design Rules. Every vehicle sold Down Under has to meet these. This includes separate Australian crash testing. So the RRE may get 5 stars in NCAP, but before it can be sold here it needs to pass ANCAP. This comes at the distributors expense. We have lots of other weird and wonderful rules and some aren't even consistent across the whole country, as states can dictate their own.

Australia has a Luxury Car Tax which adds 30% (IIRC) for amounts over $57k, unless the vehicle does better than 7l/100km on the ADR economy test, at which the LCT kicks in at $75k. GST (Goods and Services Tax @ 10%) then applies on top of the LCT.

Accessories the dealer can fit work out cheaper; if they are fitted at the factory it may push the car's price over the LCT threshold and thus you'll pay GST on top of LCT for those optional factory wheels. It may workout cheaper to purchase the wheels via dealer spare parts and only pay GST. Sure you'll have two sets of alloys but for 4WDrivers this could be a bonus.
