Back came the prompt reply, you have to use the low sops oil and promptly plonked and the counter a litre bottle of Castrol Edge Professional Oil C1 5W-30Bow down So much for Guy Salmon supplying Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 (C2/C3) on the handover, the wrong specEvil

I confirmed with Guava they only use the Castrol Edge Professional Oil C1 5W-30 oil on all services for the DPF cars, so my wife's SD4 had the right stuff put in it when they serviced it in DecemberVery Happy

To top it all the sold me a litre for a fraction over £10 which is the best price I have seen so far! This is now sitting in my boot should I need it between services.

I wonder if it's the same top up as I use for my 335i? I use Castrol Edge 5w 30 and got a few 1 litre top ups when they were on offer in Makro a few months ago for £5 each, couldn't believe it, I normally pay at least £15 each Very Happy

RE: Top Up Oil

No do not use the Castol Edge 5w 30 as this is not C1. The Castrol Edge Professional 5w 30 is the C1. However this is only supplied to the dealers and cannot be purchased privately!
As per previous posts Opie oils are a good bet and you can purchase Shell Helix Diesel Ultra AF-L 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Low SAPS Engine Oil (which is C1).

At present we are stuck being not able to actually obtain the correct oil, and even the dealers are using a lower spec !. Hopefully Nick will help out. Does he/She often respond ?

Responds occasionally but never actually answered a question (in my experience)

RE: Top Up Oil

Any oil that meets 5W-30 and ACEA C1 is fine.

As others have posted Castrol Edge Professional meets the specification as is used by most reputable dealers but it is not available to the general public.

Opie Oils sell suitable alternative oils that meet the right specification.

RE: Top Up Oil

Nick@Landrover has come back to me with the following official info..

" I have been advised that the oil required for your Range Rover Evoque is 5W/30 WSS-M2C934/B. Whilst Land Rover recommend Castrol Oil this is purely a recommendation, any oil which meets the above specification would be sufficient. "

So there was have it, pretty concerning that my local dealer is selling oil for the Evoque which does not meet that spec !.

I hope this is ok?, my other question is if LR are putting in the wrong oil on servicing, what are the consequences for my engine, is it going to die earlier or will it still be ok for years to come?Tnx onebigjobby

RE: Top Up Oil

There is no reason why you cannot ask the dealer's service manager which oil they intend to put in.

I have just spent an afternoon traipsing around Halfords and several specialist auto shops and not one of them had a) heard of the specified oil b) stocked it c) any intention of getting it in due to lack of demand! They all stocked Castrol Edge but not the Professional, they all had oils approved by Mercedes, Audi ,BMW, Toyota and a load of other car makers for cars with DFP's but not with the approval required by LR and they all had more variety of oils than you could shake a stick at. I will try at my local Land Rover dealer's accessory and parts counter tomorrow. Fortunately my babyRR isn't consuming any oil now. If no luck there then it will have to be a supply from Opie Oils

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Top Up Oil

OK I've been to my local dealership this afternoon and acquired a 1ltr top up bottle of the right oil. The assistant in the parts department certainly was aware that Evoque has a weird oil spec and advised me that the same oil is now the standard recommended oil for all post 2010MY RRS and Disco4's with the SD4 engine. It isn't cheap oil though at £15.30 a litre................
So if you live in Central Scotland and are close to the M8 or M9 then Morrison's Land Rover at Bannockburn (just off J9 of the M9) has the right oil in stock.
