Petrol or Diesel?

I've driven Land Rovers since 1996, all bar the first (a V8 Disco1) have been diesels. But also except for a Freelander the rest have been Sports and FullFat's where having the diesel engine was really a no-brainer as far as residuals/ depreciation are concerned. I'm considering an Evoque but as I do less than 10k miles a year and the car is only used for pleasure with no BIK tax implications I wonder if the 2.0ltr Turbo Petrol engine might not be the better option for an Evoque in Dynamic trim. Does a relatively light car need all the torque of the 2.2SD motor at the cost of giving the car the pace that goes with the styling?

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Petrol or Diesel?

FFT - am having similar dilemma - 190 diesel or 240 petrol..... 190 diesel or 240 petrol .... would be interesting to get some perf figures to give a bit of help - have any been released yet (at Boat Show that said petrol would give 0-60 in 7.5 secs)

RE: Petrol or Diesel?

cj, we are not the only people with this dilema - I think the turbo petrol will be the one to go for in a Coupe - diesel for the family 5 door versions and those who want to tow. I have no family and don't have anything bigger than a 6x4 Ifor William drop tail trailer to tow which should be well within the towing limit of an Evoque, but I also own a Defender90 if I need to tow it fully loaded!

RE: Petrol or Diesel?

I do lots of kms so the choice is easy. I have not drove the the new 140Kw diesel yet but a friend has the Freelander 2 with the 118kw, 400nm Diesel which he has chipped. It now has 147Kw, 500nm and it goes like hell. Hopefully there will be a chip out for the SDI 140KW. If it is anything like the increase above, even 20Kw, 100NM increase would make the Evoque as quick or quicker than the petrol but will use 30-35% fuel.

Cheers

RE: Petrol or Diesel?

Have heard today that the petrol engine won't be available at the launch which is a bit of a downer and it won't be available until quite some time after the launch......... LR might just have made a tiny wee mistake there as I suspect a lot of folks buying the coupe might prefer the gas engine over the tractor juice

FFT - "diesel or petrol", "diesel or petrol", "Sep 2011 or Mar 2012", "Sep 2011 or Mar 2012" - god, they don't make things easy. It's a bit like waiting for the last series of Lost - I've forgotten where it all started and why I'm watching and waiting !
