The same can be said or driving in daylight, its only when the brain receptors realise there are no road markings.

I discovered that the other day, driving up a two mile hill I was driving into an oncoming river of brown muddy water, when I descended the hill right at the bottom, I suddenly saw that the road vanished. The flood water was clear, had no choice but to drive through a good foot of water or more.
