Land Rover performance sub brand coming...

I just read on Worldcarfans.com that there might be a Land Rover performance sub brand like Jaguar's R. I guess it holds true that good things come to those who wait. I hope they bump the SI4 to 300hp. It would compete better with the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 performance wise.

This has pretty much been confirmed as happening, on the basis the sales of the SI4 have been down on what was expected, 240bhp just isn't enough of a difference from the diseasals.
its rumoured to be the unit from the Focus RS.
Not sure about the sub-branding though.

I think the Si4 engine is from the Focus ST, branded by Ford as "EcoBoost" which, if intended to suggest good economy, is a bit of a porkie if reported Si4 mileages are to be believed.

Hopefully, they can squeeze a 2.5 litre engine in there and not just wind up the wick on the 2.0 litre engine.

As for the Si4, the increase in power is welcome over the SD4, the main criticism seems to be a fidgety gearbox.

Evoque was great, now in an RRS SVR

They should wack the five cylinder TTRS engine in there - it would absolutely fly!!!

Current Cars:

- TTRS Roadster | Phantom Black | Aluminium Pack | Bose | Ipod Dock | 19" Titanium Grey Alloys | Through Load Facility
- Range Rover Evoque Dynamic Coupe | Firenze Red | Panoramic Roof | Towbar | Satin Brushed Centre Console

RE: Land Rover performance sub brand coming...

mark_n,
Whereas I do agree a 2.5 Litre would be the way to go, I also think a tuning kit that could bump the current engine from 240hp to around 300hp would allow any current Evoque owner to retrofit this package that could be available through the dealer. Either way, a few more ponies would be welcome however it is packaged.

Pricy147,
Nice TTRS!!! Oh the mods you can do to that beast....man I still love Audi's. Makes me miss my 07' RS4.

Thanks ApeelinZ

Yep - with a simple map - 400bhp+ easily achievable from stock! The evoque would certainly shift with that under the bonnet. sub 5 secs 0-60 easily. TT is sub 4 secs with the map - but I suspect Evoque weighs quite a bit more.

Hah! I doubt VW/Audi would play ball on that one. I am slightly converned about LR's lack of background on engines, using a standard Ford engine may be fine but they need to add their own value. Hopefully, Jaguar can donate some expertise, though I think space for a physically larger engine is quite tight in spite of the RRE being very wide.

Yes, the Evoque is 200-300kg heavier, depending on the models you are comparing but the petrol engine is lighter than the diesel lumps. Not sure a highly tuned 2l is the way to go - this is not a fragile Lotus Esprit turbo - and to increase power, you either have to increase torque or max rpm or both. The specific output power (bhp/litre) is already quite close to industry highs so a capacity increase is a good starting point.

RE: Land Rover performance sub brand coming...

Is there any more info on the more powerful Evoque coming out?

Is it a few months away or couple years away? Any ideas on ETA?

End of 2013? That seems too far away. I was hoping a maximum of 6 months or so. Might be better of buying now and trading-in in a couple of years.
