Interesting sales figures - Australia vs South Africa

Being an ex South African, i still keep an eye on what happens in the South African new car market.

The South African new car market is only about 60% of the Australian market but there are some amazing similarities like the HiLux being the top selling car in both markets for April 2012. RE: Interesting sales figures - Australia vs South Africa

What are the prices like in SA? Are there hefty taxes on luxury cars?

Going by what you're saving, it sounds like there is less difference between premium and standard cars in which case the premium cars would usually do a bit better as a percentage?

RE: Interesting sales figures - Australia vs South Africa

@ spiff888 - just a heads up on the buyers of evoque in SA. They are not your average South African. Evoque there starts at high R580K's going into the R600K's+. And I saw quite a few which I found odd given the cost and demographics of the population as compared to Oz as you rightly mentioned.
I have only ever seen the Evoque or black BMW or PT cruisers being driven by Geldenhuyse. Just an observation from a recent trip again Wink
