RE: Hosepipe ban - how do I wash my car now?

Having geared myself up for the summer using grey water, I'm sticking with it. My rain water is only 60ppm but the mains is 260ppm (water hardness). The filter system I used to use on the mains supply was at 30ppm, but is wasn't cheap to run. The gray water drys without any water spots & of course the water is free Smile

What pump and filter system are you using Doug? I have installed grey water tanks so could pump it from the tanks, It is indeed free since I'm on a meter, was concerned about algae build up on the car rubbers etc though, although I do add occasional treatment so that's probably fine.

RE: Hosepipe ban - how do I wash my car now?

Philskill,
I have piped the stored water in to my garage, from there I have installed a filter http://www.vyair.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=86

Most pressures washes will run on gravity pressure, but I found the Lmin was too low to work my snow lance & the pressure wasn't very good for blasting away dirt. So I installed a old shower pump working @1.5bar fitted after the filter. The pumped water then feeds my pressure washer, so it works as it would under mains pressure.
Will take some pictures tomorrow of the set up.

RE: Hosepipe ban - how do I wash my car now?

Thanks Doug looks ideal, certainly got my mind racing about a tank in the garage roof space pumped from the external tanks, and then a similar setup to yours to run the pressure washer from, or I could filter the water going into the additional tank so no need for a filter on outlet to reduce any impact of the filter on the flow rate. Ideas Ideas...

If you mean one of these found at the petrol station. The shampoo (truck wash) more than likely will strip your wax off. The brush has been laying on the dirty floor all day & you only get a set time before the programme shuts off.
If you can't get to wash your vehicle yourself for what ever reason, I would use a local mobile valeter.
