Headlight blowing bulbs

The passenger side of my evoque keeps blowing the main HB3 headlight.

I went through 2 bulbs within 2 weeks, no fault codes found or obvious wiring issues so ordered a set of cheap LED bulbs on amazon just purely for the fact that LED don't blow as easy.

Fitted them and everything was fine for almost 2 days then the passenger side started to flicker on/off like a strobe light, then just died.

Does anyone have any idea what could be happening?

RE: Headlight blowing bulbs

Please can you tell us which model year and the model - Pure/Prestige/Dynamic/SE etc etc as 2011MY to 2015MY are different to the "facelift" 2016 onwards cars.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Headlight blowing bulbs

my 2012 pure used to do it constantly to the point where they melted the plugs. i had been buying aftermarket bulbs as the originals are pants. and to cap it all you have to buy a complete light unit for the sake of a plug. i managed to source plugs from a suburu and soldered them on. went back to original bulbs and no problems since

RE: Headlight blowing bulbs

Ive had similar problems on my 2012 pure with HB3 too. Gone through 4 sets of Hellfrauds 120% brighter bulbs (original are utter pants! ) with bulbs melting or exploding.

Ive now got Bosch pure light bulbs in which so far are ok.

Unfortunately I now have lots of tiny glass fragments in both light units

2012 Evoque Pure 5 door - Santorini Black, 20'' style 6 wheels, privacy, fogs, (accident damaged wreck direct from LR approved :rollSmile
2011 Evoque Prestige 3 door - Indus Silver, gloss black 19'' style 5 wheels, privacy, partial black pack.

and a few Freelander 2 over the yearsLaughing

I had a similar problem with my jaguar x type where the bulbs are a pig to change unless you have 3 hands and a torch in your mouth.

In the end the garage I used for servicing cleaned all the electrical connectors and that certainly stopped them blowing so often
