Evoque to debut world’s first 9-speed auto

I think the new 9 speed auto will be a real game changer.

The SD4 Auto has been my pick so far and whilst I've always thought the Evoque was a very well rounded package, its only weakness has been the 6 speed auto box, imho. By todays standards it felt slow and sluggish which really takes the fun out of it, and of course it's detrimental to performance for those that care about these things. I had always hoped they utilised a transmission similar to the 8 speed auto in the BMW X3 as that works very well and is incredibly smooth plus delivering excellent fuel economy but they've gone one step further with the 9 speed.

I can't wait to drive one and I think this 2014 model will be the year of the Evoque to own.

What does everyone else think??

Will definitely be upgrading when it arrives. Am hoping they add a more powerful engine to the line up in 2014 as well.
Don't get me wrong. Current gear box is fine but 9 speed sounds like a big improvement.

6 gears is plenty i reckon...I'll be keeping my SD4 Auto , as i'm more then happy with the performance.
Also, be aware the 9 speeder Auto is going to have the stop/start system installed, and personally, thats something i would despise.
You can read about the 9 speeder here,... http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/range-ro...uto/265572 , but yeah, i love my Evoque just the way it is.

For sure, I think it will be worth the upgrade and complete the package. I'd be willing to keep that Evoque for many years.

I would love more power too, especially from a higher displacement engine, eg. 3.0L 6 cylinder diesel with roughly 190-200kw and 500nm+ torque would be fantastic. However, I'm sure the tuners will be able to extract some a decent amount of power from the SD4 engine with better mapping from increased boost, and/or other bolt-on mods.

I really think that the 9 speed auto will shave off at least 1 second in the 0-100km/hr times which is a huge improvement anyway.

6 gears is fantastic but the transmission is a bit of a slug. IMHO, Land Rover should be done with ZF transmissions altogether for their Range Rover line-up and implement proper Dual-Clutch transmissions. However, DCT have their downsides as well and I think this 9 speed will be fantastic. The most obvious benefits will be quicker shifts but with the higher gears it'll be excellent on fuel on the highway.

This 9 speed should be as smooth as butter, can't wait!

RE: Evoque to debut world’s first 9-speed auto

I'm not 100% convinced that Aus will get it this year (MY14), the dealers up here in qld are playing dumb. Maybe they don't want to hurt sales now, but I kind of know one of the sales guys who I think would tell me if he knew anything. I am hanging to see if it available. Can anyone in aus tell me fairly confidently what month we will find out he MY14 specs?

RE: Evoque to debut world’s first 9-speed auto

The article in the link below seems to confirm that the 9 speed will be here by Jan 2014, a few months behind Europe. Later than hoped but timing will still work for me!
