Evoque Automatic Gearbox NEEDS REPLACING!

Hi All,

Over the past month I’ve had an issue with my 14 Evoque Pure and I’ve come to an impasse with the dealership where they want £7000 from me and I currently am without a car!

The story:

I had my car serviced at an official dealership at 59,500 miles (3.75 years old)
Within a few days of the service the warning light came on whilst driving on motorway to say Gearbox Fault. Although it went into gear ok it struggled to move up the gears. I was recovered and taken to my local dealership.
My local dealership came back to me after having car for a few days and said it’s just that the oil needs topping up and it needs a software update. Nothing major and only a £210 job. I agreed to having this done and received a call a few days later to say it had been done, extensively road tested and was now as good as new.
I collected my car and within an hour and 30 ish miles had broken down on the motorway again. Except this time it would not go into gear or move at all and made a loud noise! I again got it recovered to the same dealership who said to leave it with them.
In the meantime I looked at my app online to see if they road tested it on a motorway etc as both times it had now broken down in the same way. To my shock and horror I found it hadn’t been tested at all!
Now, I’ve had them come back to me and say it’s now completely beyond repair and needs a whole new gearbox at cost to me of £7000.
This is money I don’t have and am struggling to come to terms with it!
Any help, advice or recommendation would be much appreciated.
Dealership is Inchcape in Preston and the service provider Lee.
Thanks
Tim

Contact Land Rover Customer Services for assistance, explain fully and tell them the car’s had full main dealer servicing ( if it has) and ask them to advise. You may get an offer to cover parts or labour if they are feeling generous. Name the dealer and you will have to give the car’s VIN and your full name etc.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

I’ve done that but they didn’t want to get involved with the problems with the dealer only the age and mileage of the vehicle and the fact it’s now out of warranty. Obviously, my issue is more that although I expected to pay for the repair I didn’t expect to give it to a main dealer for them to make the problem ten fold worse!

Ive had my 9 speed box go faulty beyond repair. Fortunately I do have a level of warranty and Land Rover have offered a 7.5% discount on the new box. My box decided to select several gears at the same time and I have been told by a specialist that this is not uncommon with this box.

7.5% discount sounds like an arbitrary number, 15% or 20% at least would cover the VAT

RE: Evoque Automatic Gearbox NEEDS REPLACING!

My 2014 Pure had the gearbox replaced at 4 weeks old, which was obviously carried out under warranty.
I was never quite sure when the car was going to let me down which it did on several occasions with various issues.
The service was always extremely good for all these problems with courtesy car available when needed.
When the warranty ran out I extended it.
Unfortunately this doesn’t help timbreaker but I would always advise Evoque owners to buy extended warranties, they may be expensive but so are Range Rover repairs.
Touching wood, since I bought a 2018 Subaru Outback a year ago I have had no problems whatsoever.
PS. MPG for diesel Evoque over 24,000 miles 34.5, Outback petrol auto 34.5
