Clearance height for tailgate

Does anyone know the height clearance needed for the tailgate on an Evoque Coupe. The owner manual says to allow 1m clearance, so with the vehicle height being 1.6m, suggests clearance needed is 2.6m, which seems a lot to me. My carport has 2.12m clearance, so I'm just trying to see if I'll be able to open the tailgate under the carport.

For info, I have an Evoque Coupe on order, due for delivery in April.

You can actually set the tailgate to open to any height you choose, so not a problem unless someone resets it and you don't realise until you open it - ouch!
It's more of a problem if you back up very close to the back wall of garage, and then accidentally hit the tailgate open button as you get out of the car. The Mrs has done that twice now, grrr Crying

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know I can set it, but wondered what the maximum was.

Paulus: isn't there a sensor to stop both of these occurrences? I thought I read of such a sensor in the manual.

There is no sensor!

I park mine in our carport and can open the boot fully no probs.

I'd have to check the height to be 100% sure you won't have a problem.

RE: Clearance height for tailgate

Afraid I can't help with regard to a coupe, but on a 5 door with the tailgate opened fully it's 203cm from the ground to the highest part of the tailgate.

Yeah, definitely no sensor. It will stop if it hits something solid, but in our case that was the frame on the window at the back of the garage Crying Could have been worse if it had just been a brick wall I suppose.

Many thanks recordman, I'm guessing the coupe might need slightly less clearance, so should be okay under my 2.12m carport. Thanks for taking the time to measure this - much appreciated.

RE: Clearance height for tailgate

Hello Tarbat
Just measured my coupe and at its highest point when open is just under 2.1m. The highest point being the change in angle between the sloping window and the vertical section where the number plate is located when closed, if you get my drift Smile when opened the bottom edge of the hatch is lower than this point. Hope this helps.

Gone but not forgotten Fuji White Coupe Pure Tech SD4 manual, Panoramic roof, privacy glass, fog lamps and spare wheel.
