2.2 9-speed or 2.0 diesel engine?

I'm currently still running a Freelander (petrol i6) and I'm searching for a replacement car.

Currently I'm not sure which of the both engines is the better choice, 2.2L SD4 (190HP) or 2.0L (180HP), both with the 9-speed automatic gearbox. Which of the both is more reliable? Which one has more torque, do you really feel any difference? Which one uses less fuel?

I have two cars on my radar, one is a 2015 2.2 SD4 Autobiography, the other one a 2016 2.0 (180) HSE, both with nearly same mileage and price. Which one would be the better choice?

Thanks for any advice.

2017 HSE Dynamic Si4, Firenze red w/ roof Santorini black, lots of stuff to play with

I have a 2.2SD4 190bhp goes OK.
From what I have read the 2.0 Ingenium lump does not enjoy a good reputation, loads on line about problems.

Thanks a lot for your reply. but went a completely different approach now. After years with petrol FL2 and no engine problems I just bought a petrol 2017 HSE Dynamic Si4 yesterday, only 12k miles and 50% off its original price.

There are so few petrol Evoques in UK and Europe we don’t get many reports of engine problems. Until very recently the Si4 was the only engine available in th USA and there have been some posts here about MAT sensor problems. Might be an idea to use the forum search function and search with Si4 as the subject. The other place to look is Ford Focus forums as the 2.0ltr petrol focus ST I think it is used the same Ford engine

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
